F.R. Scott Prize ceremony postponed

The ceremony for the presentation of the F.R. Scott Award for Distinguished Service to Justice James K-Hugessen, which was planned for Thursday, April 16, 2009, has been postponed due to illness in the family. Law alum Julien Fouret publishes book on arbitration

Graduate Law students Jean-François Hébert and Robin F. Hansen win Marc Lalonde Prize

Two McGill Law graduate students have been awarded the first Marc Lalonde Prize for Excellence in International Commercial and Investment Arbitration. DCL student Jean-François Hébert and LLM student Robin F. Hansen were honoured at a ceremony held earlier this week at Ogilvy Renault in Montreal.

Recent gifts to Faculty of Law total more than $4.7-million

McGill’s Faculty of Law has received more than $4.7-million in philanthropic gifts since the beginning of September, just as the University entered the 2nd year of its historic Campaign McGill. That means the Faculty has raised more than $17-million since McGill launched its largest-ever fundraising drive in October 2007 – nearly half-way toward its goal of $35,130,000.

Class of ’58 pays homage to popular professor and judge

Before serving on the Supreme Court of Canada, Gerald Le Dain was a much-beloved McGill law professor who believed that legal education and its students should be tended to most carefully. In a homage to this respected teacher, the Class of ’58 has joined Justice Le Dain’s family to establish a fund in constitutional and administrative law.

Calgary lawyer encourages Western Canadian law students to experience Quebec culture

Bryan Haynes was raised in British Columbia, but that didn’t stop him from moving to Montreal as a law student, and immersing himself completely in the city’s rich mix of French and English cultures. Now this Calgary-based lawyer is giving other Western Canadians the chance to help forge the frontier of civil law in Canada at McGill’s Faculty of Law.
