The Faculty of Law is delighted to announce that it will welcome four new members in the 2021-2022 academic year.

Joshua Nichols will join the Faculty on 1 August 2021 as an assistant professor. Sarah Riley Case will begin a one-year term as a Boulton Junior Fellow on 1 August 2021, before taking up the role of assistant professor effective 1 August 2022. Priya Gupta will begin as an associate professor on 1 August 2021, following a year-long term as a Senior Wainwright Fellow.

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor Daniel Weinstock has been appointed associate dean (Research) for a three-year term starting 1 September 2021. He will replace Professor Allison Christians, H. Heward Stikeman Chair in the Law of Taxation, who is completing a four-year term.

The Faculty of Law of McGill University and the Peter MacKell Chair in Federalism are delighted to announce the winners of the 2020-2021 Baxter Family Competition on Federalism, organized by Professor Johanne Poirier.

For the first time, the Competition was open to authors from the disciplines of law or political science. This edition’s overall theme was Federalism, Identity and Public Policy in Challenging Times.

McGill Law has featured in the top 30 institutions of the QS rankings each year since 2015. The ranking is based on an institution’s academic reputation, employer reputation, H-index citations, and citations per paper.

The Faculty of Law is delighted to announce that Professor Helge Dedek will be promoted to the rank of full professor, effective 1 January 2021.

Professor Dedek joined the Faculty of Law in 2006 as a Boulton Junior Fellow. Appointed as assistant professor in 2007, he became an associate professor in 2012. From 2012–2016, he served as the director of the Institute of Comparative Law. He has been the co-editor in chief of the American Journal of Comparative Law since 2014.

The Faculty of Law is delighted to announce that Samuel Gale Professor Robert Leckey, BCL/LLB’02, has been reappointed as dean. Dean Leckey’s reappointment, approved by the Board of Governors at its meeting on 10 December 2020, is effective 1 July 2021 for a term of five years.

Dean Leckey joined the Faculty of Law in 2006, where he teaches and researches in constitutional law, family law, and comparative law. From 2014 to 2016, he served as director of the Paul-André Crépeau Centre for Private and Comparative Law.
