McGill doctoral law student Claris Harbon is one of 14 Canadian and foreign students recognized today by The Trudeau Foundation for their work in areas including environment, international affairs, responsible citizenship, and human rights and dignity.
Julie Paquin, LLM'97, DCL'10, has been awarded the prestigious Prix Henri Capitant 2011 for her doctoral thesis, entitled "Business Law Transplants and Economic Development: An Empirical Study of Contract Enforcement in Dakar, Senegal", which was supervised by Professor Adelle Blackett.
Professor Lionel Smith, Director of the QRCPCL, has been elected a Visiting Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford. Professor Smith has been a professor at McGill since 2000, was awarded a James McGill Chair in 2004, and became the Director of the QRCPCL in 2007.
The Faculty of Law mourns Professor Emeritus Ivan A. Vlasic, LLM’55, who passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2011. He was 84. The McGill University Flag will be lowered, on April 27, in his memory.
It was with regret that the Faculty of Law learned of the sudden passing of Gary Nachshen, BCL '87, LLB'87, at the age of 51. A commemorative fund has been set up by his family and his business partners at Stikeman Elliott.
The Faculty of Law continues its record of sending students in large numbers to clerk at the Supreme Court of Canada: for 2012, six of the 27 clerks at the Court will be McGill Law graduates. They are Adela Gotz, Anja Kortenaar, Michael Bookman, Annamaria Enenajor, Corey Omer, and Mary Race.
