Please be advised that a fibre optic cable was damaged due to a fire in a city utility tunnel in downtown Montreal, cutting phone, fax and email communications with our DAR colleagues located on Peel Street. We have been advised that data service will not be restored prior to Thursday morning, and phone service prior to Thursday afternoon (May 5), at the earliest. Emergency calls should be directed to 514-247-6544.
Because of multiple virus infected and/or compromised machines connecting on McGill's VPN, and sending viruses and spam through the anti-spam gateway, access to port 25 has been blocked from the following subnet to the mx.mcgill.ca gateway: 18.104.22.168/24. All machines on the McGill network should be sending mail through mailhost.mcgill.ca as their smtp server.
Virus infected machines affected our email servers yesterday, causing an overload and delay in email delivery. If you were expecting some important email, and you have not received it yet, please contact the person to have them send it to you again.
Minerva and all related Banner administrative systems, including the Banner data warehouse, will be unavailable from 6:45 am to 1 pm on Friday, March 25.
Please note that staff email on EXCHANGE will be unavailable on Saturday, March 19, 2005 (tomorrow) from 06h00 to 07h00, due to a maintenance procedure. Incoming mail for EXCHANGE users will be queued and delivered when service is restored.
The File and Printer server in the Faculty of Management that was down earlier today is working now. Users who are still having problems printing should log out and back on to the server.

NCS IST Security will OPEN restrictions currently set on the Banner Proxy Server (Windows) on Tuesday, February 22, at 08h30. The change is being performed to resolve an intermittent slow connectivity problem that is being experienced by some NetWare clients who use Banner. Although we do not anticipate any problems as a result of the change, ICS Customer Support has been notified and are prepared to report any abnormalities to NCS.
