In accordance with McGill's Climate & Sustainability Strategy, McGill is moving to a new telephone system to reduce our environmental footprint related to our physical phone system.
We are transitioning to a softphone solution. Exceptionally, physical phones will only be available for the following spaces:
-
Common areas not assigned to an individual
-
Conference rooms, labs, workshops
-
Receptionist and Administrative Assistants’ desks
-
Department/Unit offices
As part of McGill’s ongoing efforts to keep our systems secure, McGill IT Services will begin on February 15, 2023, automatically uninstalling unused and outdated software that may contain security vulnerabilities from ICS-managed desktop and laptop Windows computers.
How does this affect you?
Hello,
The IT Services team has created 10 information drop-in sessions for the resource account sponsor community to ask any questions they may have regarding their respective account(s) and about the process moving forward, whether your respective account(s) should remain active, deactivated, transferred to a shared mailbox account, or transitioned to another type of non-personal account.
Please attend one of the sessions that best suits your availability.
An issue affecting myCourses is causing processing delays with course enrolment and unenrolment. Users may not immediately see their updated enrolment records on myCourses.
We thank you for your patience while we work to resolve the issue.
An updated version of It Takes All of Us for all students, staff, and faculty will be live and available in myCourses as of January 30, 2023. More details: https://www.mcgill.ca/sv-education/

McGill-managed desktop and laptop Windows computers will receive an important security update beginning on October 31, 2022. Cisco Secure Endpoint, McGill’s antivirus software, will receive its regularly scheduled, monthly update. The process to update all affected machines will take approximately 2 weeks.
On October 24th 2022, IT Services will be adding enhanced anti-phishing and anti-malware protection to your McGill email and Microsoft Teams conversations. Here are some details on what’s changing:
As of June Wednesday, June 15, 2022 McGill's Facilities and Space Maintenance System, FAMIS will only be accessible through a remote connection to a secure "containment" environment. This is necessary because FAMIS only runs in Internet Explorer, which is no longer supported by Microsoft.
As of May 1, 2022, the price of printing impressions (print and copies) using the uPrint service will be increased to the following:
From:
- Black and white impressions: $0.07/per impression
- Colour impressions: $0.23/per impression
To: (for all paper sizes)
McGill’s Student Directory, where students can choose to share their contact information with their fellow students or the community at large, will be decommissioned as of May 30, 2022. If you are a student whose information is listed in the directory, no action is required on your part.
The option to add or remove your name and contact information from the Student Directory has been removed from Minerva. If you are listed in the Student Directory and wish to remove your contact information before May 30, please contact the IT Service Desk.
Update (March 30, 2022)
The wired network outage at 5100 de Maisonneuve reported last week is ongoing. We have learned that the issue was caused by a fire in the manhole, which damaged the fiber cable. Emergency teams from the City of Montreal are on site and we hope to be able to resolve the issue by early next week once their work is complete. Check back here for status updates.
