MLIS student, Ms. Shazia Ahmad, was awarded the newly established Teresa Troide Prize for Excellence in Information Studies for the highest academic standing over the two years of the MLIS. The award was created last year in memory of Teresa Troide, with the generosity of her husband, Professor Lars Troide, from the Department of English at McGill University. MLIS student Jennie Ferris has been named one of the winners of McGill's Cut the Red Tape contest. Her entry brought attention to inefficiencies in the process of administering federal student loans at McGill.

Prof. Catherine Guastavino and colleagues to receive European Acoustics Association (EAA) 2008 award
Prof. Catherine Guastavino and colleagues will be receiving the European Acoustics Association (EAA) 2008 award for outstanding scientific results published recently in Acta Acustica united with Acustica for their paper "Ecological validity of soundscape reproduction" (2005) v. 91. The award ceremony will take place in Paris in July at the Acoustics '08 Conference.
Val Nesset, doctoral candidate in the School of Information Studies, was awarded third prize for the Best Doctoral Student Poster at the recent 2008 conference of ALISE (Association for Library and Information Science Education), held in Philadelphia. She was third in the competition comprising over 60 doctoral students.
Professor Jamshid Beheshti of the School of Information Studies has been named interim dean of the Faculty of Education for a term commencing September 17, 2007, until May 31, 2008. The former Dean, with whom Prof. Beheshti was serving as Associate Dean (Administration), has taken up a new position at the University of London.
Prof. Catherine Guastavino of the School of Information Studies has been appointed Associate Director (Scientific Research) at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT), and an Associate Member of the Schulich School of Music.
Vincent Larivière, a doctoral student at SIS, has received a three-year fellowship of $105,000 from SSHRC to pursue his study on the bibliometric analysis of the contribution of graduate students to the advancement of scientific knowledge, under the supervision of Professor Jamshid Beheshti.
Emily Toms, MLIS'07, was awarded the Albert Tabah Prize for Highest Standing throughout the MLIS program. Stephanie Simard, MLIS'07, received the Dr. Herbert Stanley Birkett Award for highest standing in GLIS 671, Health Sciences Information, in 2006-2007. Shazia Ahmad, MLIS'08, received the Margaret Downey Prize for exceptional academic merit in MLIS I. Benjamin Abrahamse, MLIS'08, was awarded the Virginia Murray Prize for Cataloguing for highest standing in GLIS 607, Organization of Information, in 2006-2007.
