Update on MUNACA strike

We are continuing to talk with the union with the guidance of the conciliator and, as both sides have agreed, we will not discuss the specific content of those negotiations publicly. Since my last message, we met Friday and Monday and are scheduled to meet again tomorrow in exploratory discussions about wages, benefits, pension issues and other matters.

Norwegian tragedy

As more details come to light on the bombing and shootings that killed 76 people in Norway on Friday, some members of the McGill community may be concerned about loved ones, friends or colleagues who may have been affected by this tragedy. 20010-11 Salary Increase Implementation: Executives, Management Staff and Staff in positions excluded from the MUNACA bargaining unit

The 2010-11 Salary Policy is comprised of a total salary increase budget of 3.5%. Salary increase implementation guidelines provide for a minimum increase of 1% for all staff meeting the requirements of their job.

2009-10 Salary Increase Implementation: Management Staff and Staff in positions excluded from the MUNACA bargaining unit

Problems with emails sent from web pages

Emails sent from web pop-up forms on Sept 1 and 2 were undelivered. From approximately 11:30 am Sept. 1 to 4:30 pm Sept 2, emails sent using the spam-protected email form from many McGill web pages were not delivered, due to a technical problem. See the full message for details.

Boil water advisory lifted

The water distributed on Macdonald Campus is now safe to drink. The boil water advisory was lifted on Friday, August 14 at 5 p.m. after two consecutive days of testing revealed no presence of contaminants in the water.

McGill Accepts Conciliator’s Proposal

McGill University has accepted the conciliator’s proposal for a new collective agreement with MUNACA. McGill’s decision follows the vote by 80% of MUNACA’s members in favour of the same proposal at the MUNACA General Assembly held on Thursday, March 26, 2009.The new agreement will run until November 30, 2010.

Statement on MUNACA

Recent advertisements purchased by MUNACA in campus newspapers and some Montreal dailies have contained misleading and inaccurate information. The University administration understands that in the heat of a labour dispute, rhetoric can go beyond normal discourse and things can be said or done, in support of a position, which might not otherwise be advanced. Nonetheless, errors demand correction.

Statement on MUNACA

The University regrets that, despite intensive bargaining, the help of a provincially appointed conciliator and an offer to increase salaries by 8.5% over three years ending November 30, 2010, a contract agreement with MUNACA has so far proven elusive.
