The parties held their second bargaining session on October 10, 2013. They discussed the grievances and arbitration procedures. Both parties expressed concerns, particularly about how the articles should better align with current day-to-day practices and improvements were proposed.
The first bargaining session with SEU trades and powerhouse took place on October 3, 2013. The session kicked off with members of both bargaining committees introducing themselves. The parties then each presented their full sets of proposals.
The parties met on October 2, 2013 and discussed at length the objectives and concerns and the implications of treating food and dining and residences as two different departments. Several scenarios were considered in view of satisfying both parties’ interests. Discussions led to possible solutions stemming from each party.

At the November 6, 2013 meeting, the university presented the content of a letter of agreement about the separation of food and dining from residences, resulting in two different structural units. Until now, food and dining was a sub-section of residences.
The parties met on September 18. They reviewed and discussed the university’s proposed text relating to the scheduling of days of rest and the days on which holidays are taken for employees working on special shifts. A final version of the text was prepared and the parties signed off on the relevant articles.

After a pause in negotiations during the summer, the parties resumed negotiations on September 11 with both sides’ full committees present at the table. The university submitted the text of a new definition for the possible duration of assignments on special projects.

At the June 12 bargaining session, the parties reached an agreement on the job posting process, more specifically the effective date of appointment and payment of new rates. This point, applicable to the three collective agreements, is now settled.
Now is the time to start thinking about submitting nominations to the Principal’s Awards for Administrative and Support Staff for 2012-2013. Colleagues can present nominees in six categories – customer service, quality of work, initiative/innovation, service to the community, teamwork and sustainability – for work carried out between June 1, 2012 and May 31, 2013.
At the May 29 bargaining session, the university submitted the revised article on proposed working hours, applicable to Food and Dining Services. The university also submitted for review a joint statement of intent relating to the staffing organization in Food and Dining Services. Both documents were ratified by the parties.
At the May 23 bargaining session, the parties signed off on changes to the article relating to the relocation procedure when a position is abolished, proposed by the university in earlier sessions. The article on proposed working hours in Food and Dining Services was discussed in detail with both parties expressing their objectives and concerns.
