McGill is home to a vibrant international community, and many of us have roots in countries around the world. Global crises can affect us all.
The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has been a source of deep preoccupation to many of us. As Principal of our university, I am reminded of the need for – and the potential fragility of – stability and peace in order to pursue higher learning and the advancement of knowledge.
Jackie Stendel, DISE, has been selected as Pathy Fellow for the year 2022-23

Emmanuel Tabi started at McGill last fall as an assistant professor in Black/African Studies in Education in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE).
He is part of McGill’s recent cluster hire of Black tenure-track professors – one of the Action Items in the University’s Action Plan to Address Anti-Black Racism.
In celebration of three important milestones, the 85th birthday of a true McGill champion, the beginning of the University’s third century, and the upcoming 65th anniversary of his class, a brand new named award is being established in McGill's Faculty of Education to celebrate Thomas B. Thompson (BSc(PE) ’58, Med ’78), a Physical Education alumnus with a proven track record of community service.
In a new McGill-produced video, Dr. Tina Montreuil, Associate Professor, Educational and Behavioural Psychology, discusses with Associate Provost, Chris Buddle, how you might approach someone in a kind and non-confrontational manner, who is not following safety protocols. We hope that this video will give you some helpful tips to help keep us all safe.

This February 11 on the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, CIUSSS du Nord de l'Île de Montréal highlighted Dr. Marie-Hélène Pennestri, McGill Educational and Counselling Psychology University Assistant Professor and psychologist at the clinic for diagnosing sleep disorders at the Rivière-des-Prairies Hospital.
Dr. Dennis Jensen, Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair in the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education, was recently interviewed by The Walrus on the use of Cannabis as a potential performance enhancing substance among athletes.

Dr. Gordon Bloom, from the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education, was recently interviewed on Global News, on renewed calls for the government to create a law protecting students against sexual violence. Members of the sport say it's time for a collective reflection on unacceptable behaviour from coaches and success is not an excuse for aggressive behaviour, especially when it comes to young athletes.
Dr. Jeffrey Derevensky, from the Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology, was recently featured at TheNewsMotion.com on what parents should teach their kids about gambling.
“Kids with a problem will talk about gambling, watch gambling shows, and lie about their own gambling. Parents will find scratch lottery tickets in drawers, amongst other things,” says Dr. Derevensky.

“You shouldn’t even have the right to education...you’re black” were the hateful words said to Iona Amico by a fellow grade one student many years ago. Born in France and raised in Quebec, Iona Amico is the daughter of a Cameroonian mom and an Italian dad who grew up biracial in a predominantly Caucasian neighbourhood. Despite having faced incidents of bigotry and feeling like she was between two worlds, she did not let these experiences jade her.
Jessica Kang (B.Ed. ’20) knew she wanted a career that would promote her out-of-the-box thinking and allow her to inspire others; her recent ventures as an online elementary school teacher have definitely met those goals. Graduating with her Bachelor of Education degree at the start of the pandemic, this Toronto native has been teaching elementary school students throughout Montreal and across Quebec on virtual platforms, successfully leveraging her creativity to keep her grade five and six students engaged and feeling supported.

The Gibbs Lab is seeking participants for a PAID research opportunity for a study evaluating the associations between muscle function, physical activity, and bone strength in endurance trained men and women aged 18-35 years.
Participants will be asked to complete a VO2max test, DXA, pQCT, muscle strength, and questionnaires over two study visits.
