INESSS (Quebec's National Institute for Excellence in Health and Social Science has released two reports with recommendations regarding access to psychotherapy.

Dr. Martin Drapeau, of our Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, co-authored these reports, and is the principal collaborator on this project.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Ada Sinacore, of the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, is the 2015 recipient of the CPA Counselling Psychology Section Distinguished Member Award. This award was officially bestowed at the recent annual convention of the Canadian Psychological Association.

This award recognizes individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the field of counselling psychology.

On May 29th, close to 450 Faculty of Education students walked across the stage to receive their degree at the convocation ceremony held on McGill’s main campus. The Hon. Michael A. Meighen, Chancellor of McGill, opened the ceremonial proceedings with the colourful customary procession led by piper Jeff McCarthy.  The convocation tent was filled to capacity with proud family members cheering on the graduates as they were ‘capped’ by Principal, Suzanne Fortier, before receiving their academic degree.

Dr. Victoria Talwar is Associate Professor with the Faculty of Education's Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology at McGill University. She is director of the Talwar Research Team for Understanding Children's Behaviour Through Research. Professor Nancy Heath’s research team is delivering a face-to-face training of high school teachers and technicians using  a manualized program (StressOFF Strategies for Teens; SOS4Teens) which they developed. StressOFF uses  mindfulness-based stress management techniques. The training starts next week with a two-day session as part of a Ministère de l'éducation, du Loisir et du Sport (MELS) Action Research Grant in partnership with the Lester B.

Children more likely to tell the truth either to please an adult or because they believe it is the right thing to do
 

If you want your child to tell the truth, it’s best not to threaten to punish them if they lie. That’s what researchers discovered through a simple experiment involving 372 children between the ages of 4 and 8.
