MWP awarded grant by Rockefeller Foundation to host high-level workshop

The McGill World Platform for Health and Economic Convergence (MWP) has been awarded a grant by the Rockefeller Foundation to host a high-level workshop from November 27 to December 1, 2012 at the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center in Bellagio, Italy. This is McGill’s 12th grant given by the Rockefeller Foundation and the MWP’s 2nd.

Managing the myths of health care

Author: Henry Mintzberg Abstract: Myths impede the effective management of health care, for example that the system is failing (indeed, that is a system), and can be fixed by detached social engineering and heroic leadership, or treating it more like a business. This field needs to reframe its management, as distributed beyond the “top”; its strategy as venturing, not planning; its organizing as collaboration beyond control, and especially itself, as a system beyond its parts.

Desautels Professor Liette Lapointe publishes one of the Best Articles in Medical Informatics

Professor Liette Lapointe's article was selected by the Editorial Board of the 2012 IMIA Yearbook of Medical Informatics as one of the best articles from the literature in medical informatics published in the past year. A single-resource revenue management problem with random resource consumptions

We study a single-resource multi-class revenue management problem where the resource consumption for each class is random and only revealed at departure. The model is motivated by cargo revenue management problems in the airline and other shipping industries.
