Heartbleed: reset your McGill Password

An important message from IT Services In April, we emailed you about the Heartbleed vulnerability and its potential impact on McGill. All of McGill’s central IT systems have been evaluated, and updates were applied where needed. Official Announcement of Dentistry's New Facility

The Faculty of Dentistry announced Friday that many of its activities, including its undergraduate teaching clinic and clinical and community research unit, will be moving to a building located at the corner of McGill College Avenue and Sherbrooke Street. Innovation in 3D printing and spinal bone grafts at McGill

A team led by McGill University’s Dr Michael H Weber, and Professor Jake Barralet, are developing a new technology with a 3D printer which seeks to create replicas of bone for spinal grafts. The concept creates a bone-like replacement material in the exact shape of bone or bone segment which is to be removed. Professor Barralet holds the Canada Research Chair in osteoinductive biomaterials.

World-leading expert on pain genetics joining McGill

It gives us great pleasure to announce that Dr. Luda Diatchenko will be joining the Faculties of Dentistry and Medicine as the holder of a Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Human Pain Genetics. The announcement was made On September 25th at McGill University by the Federal Government Minister of State for Science and Technology, Mr. Greg Rickford. The award will see $10millon in federal funds and another $20million in matching provincial and private funds over the next 7 years coming to support the research of Dr.

Montreal Gazette article on Faculty of Dentistry’s mentoring program

"MONTREAL — A mentoring program for students in the faculty of dentistry at McGill University has been launched by Dr. Norman M. Miller, a 1974 graduate of the school. The J.W. C.P. Leblond - Stem Cell Renewal Theory

Over 60 years ago, Yves Clermont and Charles Leblond characterized the steps of sperm differentiation in the testis. This enabled them to identify for the first time the population of spermatogonia responsible for the production of spermatozoa. We celebrate 60 years later the publication of their landmark paper and their discovery. Read more

Dean Allison member of a new ODQ Committee on Access to Oral Healthcare

Following extensive discussions with stakeholders in the field of dentistry, the Order decided to create a Committee on Access to Oral Healthcare. The committee will hold vast, province-wide consultations on questions related to access to oral healthcare, conduct an in-depth analysis of the situation and suggest concrete, fact-based solutions. It will present its findings in April 2014, to mark Oral Health Month.

Betty Hoac, PhD student (supervisor Dr. Marc McKee, co-supervisor Dr. Monzur Murshed) wins 2-year FRQS studentship for her research on regulation of mineralization in bones and teeth. David Wright, Postdoctoral Fellow (co-supervised by Dr. Mary Ellen Macdonald and Dr. Jennifer Fishman) wins 2-year FRQS fellowship for his research on ethical issues in end-of-life care to better understand nursing practice with patients who desire death.
