Message to students re: A/H1N1 (swine flu)

The worldwide outbreak of A/H1N1 Flu (formerly called swine flu), which threatens to become a pandemic, has raised questions about how people can best protect themselves and how the flu might affect McGill’s operations. The University remains fully open, and summer classes are proceeding as scheduled.

There have been a number of developments in the outbreak of swine flu that originated last week in Mexico and which has spread to a number of countries, including Canada. Seven more Canadian cases have been reported – two in Alberta, four in Ontario, and one in British Columbia, all of them, like the other six Canadian cases in Nova Scotia and B.C., mild in intensity.

Message on flu

You may be aware of news reports about the recent spread of swine flu and illnesses in Mexico and other countries. There is no cause for alarm. Only six mild cases have been reported in Canada so far; none in Quebec.

National announcement of Canada Research Chairs Program

The Honourable GaryGoodyear, Minister of State (Science and Technology), and the Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of National Revenue and Minister of State (Agriculture), will announce funding for 134 Canada Research Chairs at an event that will be held on Monday, February 23, 11a.m., at McGill University.
