DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nRichard Pound will be speaking about his involvement with
  the\nOlympic Games.\n\nFor more than 20 years\, Mr. Pound has been one of
  the most\ninfluential members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC
 ).\nHe built the Olympics into a multi-billion dollar enterprise by\nbrand
 ing and marketing the Olympic rings\, and negotiating deals for\ntelevisio
 n rights around the world. Under his leadership\, the IOC\nhas grown into 
 one of the richest sports organizations in the\nworld.\n\nMr. Pound has be
 en involved with the Olympic Games since he\nparticipated in the Games of 
 the XVII Olympiad in Rome in 1960.\n \n \nRichard Pound is a partner in th
 e Montréal office of Stikeman\nElliott and member of the firm’s Tax Group.
  His main areas of\npractice include tax litigation and negotiations with 
 tax\nauthorities on behalf of clients\, in addition to general tax\nadviso
 ry work and commercial arbitration.\n\nMr. Pound is recognized by The Cana
 dian Legal Lexpert Directory\n2010\, as a leading practitioner “repeatedly
  recommended” in\nthe area of international commercial arbitration. He is 
 included in\nthe 2011 edition of The Best Lawyers in Canada and in the\nLe
 xpert/American Lawyer Media publication\, A Guide to the\nLeading 500 Lawy
 ers in Canada\, 2009 edition. Mr. Pound has\nalso been recognized as a pro
 minent practitioner in the tax field\nin PLC’s Cross-border Tax on Corpora
 te Transactions Handbook\n2009. He is recognized as having the highest rat
 ing ('AV')\nunder the Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings.\n\nMr. Pound
  has been named to Time Magazine’s 100 most influential\npeople in the wor
 ld for his relentless efforts to rid sport of\nperformance- enhancing drug
 s.\n\n\nProfessional Activities\n\nHe was Chancellor of McGill University 
 (1999-2009) and\nChancellor Emeritus effective July 1\, 2009 and was Chair
  of the\nBoard of Governors (1994-1999). In recognition of his distinguish
 ed\nengagement McGill University has established a scholarship in his\nhon
 or for incoming undergraduates showing “promise of future\nsuccess and res
 ponsible citizenship” and conferred an honorary\nDoctor of Laws on him Nov
 ember 2009.\n\n\nHe is a member of the International Olympic Committee. He
  was\nChairman of the Olympic Games Study Commission. He was Chairman of\n
 the IOC’s Coordination Commission for the 1996 Olympic Games in\nAtlanta a
 nd\, from 1984 to 2001\, directed\, inter alia\, all Olympic\ntelevision n
 egotiations\, marketing and sponsorships.\n\n\nHe was the founding Chairma
 n of the World Anti-Doping Agency\n(1999-2007) and remains a member of its
  Foundation board.\n\n\nHe is the Honorary Consul General of Norway in Mon
 tréal.\n\nEducation\nHe graduated from McGill University (B.C.L. 1967)\; M
 cGill\nUniversity (Licentiate in Accounting 1964)\; Sir George Williams\nU
 niversity - now Concordia University (B.A. 1963)\; and from McGill\nUniver
 sity (B.Comm. 1962).\n\nMr. Pound was appointed Emeritus Lawyer (Ad. E.) b
 y the Quebec Bar\nin May 2010\, received an honorary degree as Doctor of L
 aws\n(honoris causa) from the Université du Québec and from\nConcordia Uni
 versity in 2010\, was appointed as Honorary\nLieutenant-Colonel of the Can
 adian Grenadier Guards in 2008\, was\nawarded an Honorary Doctorate from t
 he Beijing Sport University in\n2006\, received a Doctor of Sports Adminis
 tration (honoris\ncausa) from the Laurentian University in 2005\, a Doctor
  of\nLaws (honoris causa) from the University of Western\nOntario in June 
 2004\, a Doctor of Laws (honoris causa) by\nthe University of Windsor in 1
 997 and an Honorary Ph.D. by the\nUnited States Sports Academy in 1989. In
  September 2004\, he was\nappointed a Chubb Fellow of Timothy Dwight Colle
 ge: Yale\nUniversity.\n
