 r from Haskins Labs\, presents 'Perception of\nArticulatory Dynamics from 
 Acoustic Signatures.'\nAbstract:\nA long-standing debate in speech researc
 h has been whether the\nobjects of speech perception are articulatory or a
 coustic in\nnature. Experiments form both sides of the debate\, auditorist
  and\ngesturalist\, use the same basic experimental technique:\nmanipulati
 on of parameters of synthetic or natural acoustic stimuli\nfollowed by per
 ceptual tasks or brain-based measurements.\nAuditorists conclude that the 
 differences between acoustic stimuli\nby themselves are sufficient to expl
 ain categorization\, whereas\ngesturalists conclude that the perceptual sy
 stem must refer to the\narticulatory system. This work introduces a new pa
 radigm\, where the\nperceptual stimuli are generated by an articulatory\, 
 rather than an\nacoustic\, synthesizer. This allows for the investigation 
 of whether\narticulatory trajectories are resolvable by the perceptual sys
 tem\,\nand what acoustic signatures can be used to decode articulatory\ndy
 namics.\n
