 A Master Class Fiction Writing Workshop\nwith novelist John Beckman\nProfe
 ssor Beckman will host an intensive\, two-session workshop\nfor intermedia
 te-to-advanced fiction writers who are interested in\ndeveloping their cra
 ft. These guided sessions will treat each\nwriter’s work on its own terms.
  Students’ short stories or excerpts\nfrom longer works will be the object
 s of peer discussion. Professor\nBeckman will also provide brief tutorials
  on various mechanics of\nstorytelling\, including character\, plotting\, 
 point of view\, and\nnarration.\nWorkshop Session #1: Tuesday\, February 1
 6. Arts 385\, 10 am to 1\npm.\nWorkshop Session #2: Wednesday\, February 1
 7. Arts 385\, 10 am to\n1 pm.\nParticipation in the workshop is limited. A
 ll participants are\nexpected to attend both workshop sessions and are exp
 ected to read\nand comment upon their peers’ work in advance of each meeti
 ng. To\napply\, students must electronically submit their fiction\nmanuscr
 ipts of 7-to-10 pages in length that they would like to have\nworkshopped.

 ebruary 5th if they have been\naccepted into the workshop.\nJohn Beckman’s
  first novel\, The Winter Zoo\, was a\nNew York Times Notable Book of the 
 Year. His writing has\nappeared Granta\, Book\, McSweeney's\,\nThe Washing
 ton Post\, the anthology Wild East: Stories\nfrom the Last Frontier\, and 
 elsewhere. He has taught\nliterature at the Jagiellonian University in Kra
 kow\, Poland\, the\nUniversity of Bordeaux\, France\, and is currently an 
 Associate\nProfessor of English at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis\,\n
 Maryland.\n
