Dr. Judith Campisi Lecture "Aging and Cancer: Rival Demons?"

Tuesday, September 22, 2009 13:00
McIntyre Medical Building 3655 promenade Sir William Osler, Montreal, QC, H3G 1Y6, CA

Dr. Judith Campisi

Center for Research and Education on Aging, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab

Professor, Buck Institute for Age Research

The Campisi lab strives to understand fundamental aspects of the aging process, and the evolutionary, cellular and molecular relationships between aging, tumor suppressor mechanisms and the development of cancer.  The laboratory also studies nuclear structures such as telomeres, and nuclear processes such as DNA repair and transcription, to understand how genetic and epigenetic damage leads to aging and cancer phenotypes.  A recent focus of the Campisi is to identify links between DNA damage responses and inflammation, which is a major risk factor for the development of aging phenotypes and age-related diseases.
