“The University as Public Citizen”

Join our distinguished guest speaker, McGill alumnus Harold T. Shapiro, BCom’56, President Emeritus and Professor of Economics and Public Affairs, Princeton University, as he discusses the ways universities shape and reflect the goals of a society. What are the obligations of a university to the citizens that support it?

Dr. Shapiro has served as head of two major American universities, the University of Michigan (1980-88) and Princeton (1988-2001). His present academic interests include bioethics, on which he writes extensively. He chaired the National Bioethics Advisory Commission under President Bill Clinton. He also sits on the boards of a number of prominent non-profit ventures, including the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and RobertWood Johnson Medical School.
