DESCRIPTION:The Feindel Brain and Mind Seminar Series will advance the visi
on of Dr. William Feindel (1918–2014)\, Former Director of the Neuro (1972
–1984)\, to constantly bridge the clinical and research realms. The talks
will highlight the latest advances and discoveries in neuropsychology\, co
gnitive neuroscience\, and neuroimaging.\n\nSpeakers will include scientis
ts from across The Neuro\, as well as colleagues and collaborators locally
and from around the world. The series is intended to provide a virtual fo
rum for scientists and trainees to continue to foster interdisciplinary ex
changes on the mechanisms\, diagnosis and treatment of brain and cognitive
disorders.\n\n\nTo attend in person\, register here\n\nTo watch via Vimeo

Research Centre\n\nProfessor\, Department of Psychiatry\n\nMallar Chakrav
arty\, PhD\, received his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from
the University of Waterloo and his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from McG
ill University. He went on to do postdoctoral fellowships in Aarhus\, Denm
ark and jointly at the Rotman Research Institute and at the Mouse Imaging
Centre (MICe) and the Hospital Sick Children in Toronto\, Canada. Between
fellowships\, Dr. Chakravarty worked at the Allen Institute for Brain Scie
nce (Seatte\, WA\, USA).\n\nAbstract: One of the major challenges facing b
iomedical science is how to develop knowledge that is usable for all membe
rs of society. In ageing research\, we often consider very simple case-con
trol paradigms in our analysis. Animal models of disease often develop pat
hology very early in their lifespan. Although their brains age\, their bod
ies may not age at the same rate\, and how bodies and brains change may be
impacted by chromosomal sex. Similarly\, lifestyle considerations that ar
e intertwined with both chromosomal sex and societal expectations may impa
ct biology and human health. The focus of this talk will be examining thes
e important facets of human health and how to integrate them into neuroima
ging studies using animal models and large-scale population datasets.\n
