January 5 à 7 - CRBLM SciComm Club
CRBLM 5 à 7 events are an informal and relaxed forum for students, postdocs, faculty and alumni to support each other and network while exploring different themes. The January edition will be the first meeting of the CRBLM SciCommClub!
Effectively communicating science is an important skill for researchers at all career stages. Researchers receive extensive training in scientific writing geared toward publishing in journals primarily read by their peers, but much less training in scientific communication for scientists in other fields, lay audiences, or policymakers. The purpose of this working group is to bridge the training gap through monthly two-part sessions. The first part of the session will be a brief review of science communication techniques, tools, training, and/or outlets. The second part will provide a space to present initiatives or materials and receive feedback in a collegial environment. Trainees, fellows, and professors at any career stage are welcome to attend. The working group will be moderated by Andrea Sander-Montant, a postdoctoral fellow at Université de Sherbrooke with extensive training and experience in sciencecommunication. During this first meeting, Andrea will discuss her training, present examples of science communication endeavours she has participated in, and outline the working group's vision and importance.
When: Thursday January 29, 5-7pm
Where: Thomson House, 3650 McTavish, basement restaurant
