RE\n\nAbstract\n\nUnderstanding threats to lung health—and developing effe
ctive therapies—requires a strong “interaction” between clinical knowledge
and epidemiological methods. Lung function remains the cornerstone of res
piratory health assessment\, yet much of our current understanding is deri
ved from cross-sectional data. This talk seeks to highlight what is possib
le when clinical understanding (and humility) mix with longitudinal epidem
iological methods to update our understanding of life course lung health.
\n\nLearning Objectives\n\nAt the completion of this talk\, attendees will
be able to:\n\n\n	Describe a nearly two-century-old lung health measuremen
t instrument that is still routinely used in epidemiological cohorts\, cli
nical trials\, and clinical practice.\n	Refine our understanding of lung h
ealth decline using contemporary epidemiological and biostatistical method
s.\n	Use these methodology-driven insights to update our understanding of
lung health across the life course.\n\n\nSpeaker Bio\n\nBen is an associat
e professor in McGill's Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. He spends
a lot of time exploring the concept of lung health using epidemiological
and biostatistical tools. His questions are motivated by patients\, and hi
s approach is guided by methodologists.\n
