DESCRIPTION:Sowing Data\, Harvesting Knowledge: Ontologies and their Catalo
gues to support Semantic Interoperability in agri-food\n\nClement Jonquet

cher / University of Montpellier (LIRMM laboratory).\n\nRegister & watch w
 ebinar\n\nView poster\n\nAbstract\n\nDigital agriculture raises critical c
hallenges in terms of data integration\, reuse and interoperability across
systems\, disciplines and institutions. This presentation focuses on sema
ntic interoperability and the role of ontologies –or more broadly semantic
artefacts– and their catalogues in supporting FAIR (Findable\, Accessible
 \, Interoperable\, Reusable) agri-food data. I will introduce AgroPortal\,
a dedicated online platform for the management\, sharing and reuse of ont
ologies and semantic artefacts in the domains of agriculture\, food and th
e environment. Built on the open-source OntoPortal technology\, AgroPortal
provides a harmonized catalogue of semantic artefacts enriched with rich
 metadata\, versioning\, mappings\, APIs\, annotation and recommendation se
rvices. I will also detail the O’FAIRe (Ontology FAIRness Evaluator) asses
sment methodology\, which has been implemented by multiple OntoPortal to a
nswer the need for FAIR ontologies. This work will be positioned within th
e context of building the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and the emerg
ing Common European Agricultural Data Space (CEADS). These efforts illustr
ate how ontologies and their catalogues act as key enablers to “harvest kn
owledge” from agri-food data and to support interoperable\, FAIR and susta
inable agricultural research infrastructures.\n\n\nABOUT THE SERIES\n\nThe
Convergent Innovation Webinar Series features cutting edge science\, tech
 nology and innovation in agriculture\, food\, environment\, education\, me
dicine and other domains of everyday life where grand challenges lie at th
e convergence of health and economics. Powered by data science\, artificia
l intelligence\, and other digital technologies\, this disciplinary knowle
 dge bridges with behavioural\, social\, humanities\, business\, economics\
 , social\, engineering\, and complexity sciences to accelerate real-world
solution at scale\, be it in digital or physical contexts. Initiated in th
e agri-food domain\, the series is now encompassing other grand challenges
facing modern and traditional economies and societies\, such as ensuring
lifelong wellness and resilience at both the individual and population lev
 els.\n
