DESCRIPTION:Constitutive relations of cell motion and morphodynamics of cel
 ls on 1dimensional lanes\n\nMartin Falcke\, Humboldt University\n	Tuesday N
 ovember 18\, 12-1pm\n	Zoom Link: https://mcgill.zoom.us/j/87078928687\n	In P
erson: 550 Sherbrooke\, Room 189\n	\n	Abstract: Living cells are very comple
x systems. Consequently\, biophysical theory of cell behavior starts from
models instead of first principles. The larger the variety of observations
captured by a model the more we have reason to assume that it reflects ce
llular processes. Simple models are possible in some cases. We present an
example from cell motility.\n\nThe ability to move is a basic property of
many cell types. The motion of cells is essential for embryonic developmen
t\, wound healing\, immune responses\, and tumor metastasis. Cells moving
on flat substrates exhibit a large variety of migration behavior and patte
rns. General constitutive relations that relate adhesion density and the t
ime between direction changes (persistence time) to cell speed have been s
uggested to exist despite this variety. Concurrently\, moving cells of man
y types exhibit coexisting steady and oscillatory morphodynamics. Since ce
lls exhibit these morphodynamics while moving according to the constitutiv
e relations all of these observations should be explained by a single biop
hysical model.\n\nWe investigated cell motion on 1dimensional Fibronectin
lanes. We will also present theory offering an explanation for our observa
tions. According to it\, moving cells are non-linear mechanical systems th
e parameters of which are controlled by cell signalling\n
