Speaker: Dr. Mark Emberton, MD
Mark Emberton OBE FMedSci held the position of Dean of the UCL (University College London) Faculty of Medical Sciences from 2015-2025. Prior to this he was Director of the UCL Division of Surgery and Interventional Science. He leads a clinical innovation team that majors in experimental medicine by combining bio-engineering and nanotechnology with early phase trials in men with prostate cancer. His work encompasses the areas of diagnosis, risk stratification and therapy. He is also interested in the methodological aspects of clinical research, particularly on the use of alternatives to the randomised control trial in surgery and design aspects of diagnostic studies. He is involved in guideline production and appraisal and is interested in the formulation of evidence based management policies. He is an active researcher, lectures widely and has published over 600 peer-reviewed articles in numerous scientific journals and has been cited around 50,000 times. He is a founding Patron of the charity Prostate Cancer UK. He now serves as a non-executive Director on the boards of UCLH NHS Foundation Trust and Whittington University Hospital NHS Trust and chairs the Quality and safety committees of both organisations. In recognition of this work, he was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2021 for his services to prostate cancer research.
