DESCRIPTION:The algebra of cognition\n\nChris Eliasmith\, University of Wat
 erloo\n	Tuesday February 25\, 12-1pm\n	Zoom Link: https://mcgill.zoom.us/j/8
 9914150820\n	In Person: 550 Sherbrooke\, Room 189\n	\n	Abstract: In recent ye
ars\, my lab and others have demonstrated the value of vector symbolic alg
ebras (VSAs) for capturing a wide variety of neural and behavioural result
 s. In this talk I discuss the surprising and compelling variety of tasks a
nd styles of reasoning that are well-suited to descriptions using a specif
ic VSA. These tasks include path integration\, navigation\, Bayesian reaso
ning\, sampling\, memorization\, and logical inference. The resulting spik
ing neural network models capture various hippocampal cell types (grid\, p
 lace\, border\, etc.)\, behavioural errors\, and a variety of observed neu
 ral dynamics.\n
