 iolin Award was established in 2006 through a generous gift from Canadian 
 philanthropist Seymour Schulich. The $25\,000 First Prize is awarded by a 
 special committee of internal and external jurors at the Schulich School o
 f Music to an undergraduate\, graduate or diploma student in the Schulich 
 School of Music who demonstrates exceptional potential in the String Area.
  For the 15th edition\, the First Prize was increased to $30\,000. The 16t
 h edition saw additional generous scholarship offerings by the Schulich Fo
 undation. The finalists who place second and third will each receive $15\,
 000 and $5\,000 respectively\, in commendation of their performance and pa
 rticipation in the Schulich School of Music community. \n\nThe Golden Viol
 in\, made of pewter and gold plate\, remains on permanent display in McGil
 l’s Marvin Duchow Music Library. Its recipient\, chosen by jury and a rigo
 urous selection process\, receives a generous scholarship\, valued this ye
 ar at $30\,000 as well as a smaller likeness of the violin in the form of
