DESCRIPTION:The School of Population and Global Health will be screening Bi
rth of a Family\, a moving documentary about how a Dene First Nations fami
ly was impacted by the Sixties Scoop.  \n\nVirtual Screening: Friday\, Sep
 tember 30\, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Zoom \n\nRegistration is required. P
 lease register by Friday\, September 30 at 3:00 PM. \n\n“Betty Ann\, Esthe
r\, Rosalie\, and Ben were only four of the 20\,000 Indigenous Canadian ch
ildren taken from their families between 1955 and 1985\, to be either adop
ted into white families or live in foster care. As the four siblings piece
together their shared history\, their connection deepens\, and their fami
ly begins to take shape.”\n\nIn addition to attending the film screening\,
we highly encourage you to participate in Indigenous-led events this week
to continue learning about and honouring the experiences of First Nations
\, Métis\, and Inuit communities in Canada. While Truth and Reconciliation
Commission marks an opportunity for learning and reflection among non-Ind
igenous/settler folks\, we respect and acknowledge that September 30 is al
so a day of mourning and grief for the lives stolen and continually impact
ed by colonial systems and institutions. \n\nIf you have any questions or
concerns\, please feel free to reach out to Vivian Qiang (she/her) at vivi
an.qiang [at] mail.mcgill.ca or Dr. Ananya Banerjee (she/her) at ananya.ba
