DESCRIPTION:Macdonald Campus welcomes world-renowned entomologist Dr. Jessi
ca Ware\, from the American Museum of Natural History (NY\, USA)\, as the
keynote speaker at McGill's Queer History Month. Her lecture\, Insect ecol
ogy and evolution: drivers of dragonfly diversity\, unravels the details o
f the long evolutionary history of dragonflies and damselflies\, represent
ing the insect order Odonata\, who are among the earliest flying insects w
ith living (extant) representatives.\n\nDr. Jessica Ware is an assistant c
urator in invertebrate zoology at the American Museum of Natural History.
Their research focuses on the evolution of behavioral and physiological ad
aptations in insects\, with an emphasis on how these occur in Odonata (dra
gonflies and damselflies) and Dictyoptera (termites\, cockroaches and mant
ises). Their lab focuses on phylogenetics and phylogenomics and uses these
tools to inform their work on reproductive\, social and flight behaviors
in insects.\n\nAttend in person at Macdonald Campus\, Raymond R3-045 or vi
rtually on Zoom (contact jessica.gillung [at] mcgill.ca (Jessica Gillung)
for details).\n\nQueer History Month is taking place throughout the entire
month of October under the theme 'Coming Together'\, which recognizes tha
t the pandemic has been tough on everyone\, especially for 2SLGBTQIA+ comm
unities where shared spaces have always been a source of strength\, resili
ence\, and affirmation. As places start to open-up\, this year's QHM offer
s a renewed opportunity to come together as we begin to move past all the
changes we've lived through as of late. In addition to the keynote\, other
events include 'Return of the Rainbow'\, a 'Chat with an Elder' session\,
  a zine-making workshop\, a trans and nonbinary in academia panel\, and an
open mic night with performances by Opéra Queens. QHM is also on Facebook
  and Instagram.\n
