 gator\, Tonegawa Lab at Massachusetts Institute of Technology\, Cambridge\
 , USA. This important named lecture will take place in the Jeanne Timmins 
 Amphitheatre of the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital (3801 Uni
 versity Street). A reception will follow.\n\nThe KAC Elliott Lecture was i
 nstituted in honour of Dr. Kenneth Allan Caldwell Elliott who was a neuroc
 hemist at the MNI (1958-1968). Dr. Elliott contributed immensely to the un
 derstanding of the basic chemical mechanisms of cerebral edema\, epilepsy\
 , and brain tumours.  Importantly\, in 1957\, Dr. Elliot and his colleague
 s identified the role of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)\, now believed to 
 be the major inhibitory transmitter in the brain.\n\n \n
