 im\, but may very well hurt him too\, since both they are not always used 
 for their intended purposes. Law and machines can come from the noblest en
 terprises\, but can also serve the cause of folly. They are instruments of
  progress.\nThis fifth edition of the “Competition and Innovation” confere
 nce series will explore the relationship between law and technique\, betwe
 en law and the machine. It will take stock of the changes and responses of
  law to technical advances and revisit the fears often associated with pro
 gress. Can we\, by exploring the relationships between law and the machine
 \, in certain fields\, anticipate the future state of the law and its corr
 esponding place and function in tomorrow’s modern jurisdictions? Must we f
 ear the “technicalisation” of law\, to the extent of seeing the machine ev
 entually replace it?\nThe conference will kick off at noon with a screenin
 g of the film 'Surviving Progress' in presence of its two directors\, Math
