University underfunding threatens city's status: Forum

Quebec’s nine universities got together in advance of this month’s Summit on Higher Education to send a message about the role universities play in Quebec life — and to warn they are in a fragile state because of chronic underfunding. Saying universities are inextricably connected to research and research is the engine of the knowledge economy in Quebec, the universities teamed up with the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal to say it is imperative that the city maintain its status as the university capital of Canada.
