Two conducting appointments for Karl Hirzer

Artist Diploma piano student Karl Hirzer, MMus 2015, has been named resident conductor with Calgary Philharmonic and also assistant conductor to Boris Brott at the National Academy Orchestra for the summer of 2016. Karl Hirzer is a Canadian pianist and conductor from Vancouver, BC. In May of 2015, he completed his Master’s degree in piano performance  studying with Ilya Poletaev at the Schulich School of Music, where he also studied orchestral conducting with Alexis Hauser. He has conducted  the Gstaad Festival Orchestra in concert at the Menuhin Festival Conducting Academy in Switzerland, under the instruction of Neeme Järvi. Hirzer is currently pursuing an Artist Diploma in piano studies at Schulich and he has also acted as the assistant conductor for the McGill Contemporary Music Ensemble, with guidance from conductor Prof. Guillaume Bourgogne
