Tenure cohort 2007

Published: 22 March 2006

The Board of Governors will approve the recommendations for tenure for the 2007 cohort at the end of this May. However, contracts for candidates undergoing consideration in this group will, in some cases, expire on or prior to May 31.

As the Board's approval is necessary before appointment forms reflecting promotion or reappointment with tenure can be processed, appointments of staff members whose contracts end on or prior to May 31, 2006, should be extended during the waiting period until the Board approvals have been made. Below are details of the process, which administrative staff must follow to ensure that such staff are paid and active in the Banner system.

Step 1: Temporary Renewal: All Staff

  • Three months prior to the current termination date, the Minerva Web system will issue a Reappointment Form (RAP Status). Departments must process this appointment form, modifying the end date to June 30, 2006. This will keep the staff member active in the Banner system, and allow him/her to be paid.
  • Three months prior to the June 30 termination date, the Minerva Web system will again automatically issue another Reappointment Form (RAP Status). This second RAP form should be placed on hold, until the Board's decision is finalized. Please follow the appropriate steps below.

Step 2a: Positive Tenure Decision

  • Once the Board has approved the tenure dossiers, departments should cancel the second Reappointment form placed on hold (Step one) and process a new appointment form using the Minerva TEN-PROMO Function to appoint the person effective June 1, 2006.
  • There is a $5,000 salary increase upon promotion, which must be added to the staff member's salary at this time. There is no increase for those being tenured without promotion. The Budget Office will transfer the appropriate funds to the department once the appointment form has been processed.

Step 2b: Negative Tenure Decision

  • Where the Board has denied promotion with tenure, the second Reappointment Form in Step one should be approved, modifying the end date to extend the appointment for a terminal year. In total, the staff member's appointment and reappointments cannot exceed seven years for Assistant Professors, and six years for Associate Professors.
