The Québec Academy of Music has organized this annual competition since 1911, with the aim of awarding a major scholarship (le Prix d'Europe) and many other smaller scholarhips with a total value of over $50 000 annually.  This competition is designed to help young musicians perfect their art and to permit the winner to continue further studies outside of Québec.
