Soccer Redmen clipped by Capers

MONTREAL -- Keishen Bean tallied twice as the Cape Breton University Capers blanked McGill 3-0 in men's soccer at Molson Stadium, Tuesday.

 

Bean, a speedy, 5-foot-8, 177-pound striker from Bermuda, connected in the first minute of play and made it 3-0 in the 43rd minute. His two goals sandwiched a marker in the 10th minute by teammate Ian Greedy, a sophomore from Lower Sackville, N.B.

 

Despite the lopsided score, McGill had a 17-10 advantage in shots toward the net and an 11-1 edge in corner kicks.

 

CBU goalkeeper Andrew Murphy, a 6-foot-4, 221-pound import from Liverpool, made two saves for the shutout. McGill 'keeper Matt Gilmour, a 6-foot junior from North Vancouver, was credited with three saves and took the loss.

 

McGill, which dropped to 1-2-1 in preseason play, will travel to Middlebury College in Vermont on Sept. 3 for their final tune-up before regular season play begins at UQAM on Sept. 11.
