Schulich Trumpet Students and Ensemble at the International Trumpet Guild Competition

Students of trumpet Professor Richard Stoelzel and Paul Merkelo have excelled at the International Trumpet Guild Competitions and will advance to the final competition round later this spring.  Francis LaPorte, student of Richard Stoelzel, and David Koch, student of Paul Merkelo, have been named finalists in the International Trumpet Guild Orchestral Competition.  Benjamin Hare, student of Richard Stoelzel, is the first alternate for the Solo Competition Finals.

This tremendous accomplishment from the Schulich brass area means that McGill University will be well represented at this year's conference. In addition to all these finalists, the McGill Trumpet Ensemble under the direction of Richard Stoelzel, has been invited to perform a prelude concert at the conference.   

The ITG competition will be held May 30-June 3, 2017 in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
