Progress in talks during second conciliation meeting, next meeting set for September 21

Published: 13 September 2011

McGill and MUNACA negotiating teams met for a second day on September 12 with the government-appointed conciliator. Topics discussed resulted in some 24 issues resolved out of a grouping of 34 non-monetary issues discussed throughout the first two days of bargaining in the conciliator's presence.  The conciliator suggested, and both parties agreed, to leave the remaining items pending for the moment since neither party is ready to move further on this set of issues at the present time. During the meeting, the Union announced that it was withdrawing its proposal for an additional 6th week of vacation without any conditions attached. Also during the meeting, it was agreed to discuss at upcoming meetings the list of unresolved issues regrouped by theme, as presented.  At the next meeting, scheduled later this month, on September 21, talks will resume on the next group of issues relating to job postings and selection of personnel.
