Published: 29 May 2009

The Oacis project, which represents a collaboration between the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM), the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), and TELUS Health Solutions, won the prize in the Business Solutions - Software category at the Gala des Octas this week.

Awarded by Le Réseau Action TI, OCTAS awards are the highest distinction for IT projects in the province. The Oacis team won thanks to the quality of the development and implementation of the OACIS solution, the strong leadership of clinicians, and the strength of interdisciplinary and inter-organizational collaboration.

Several government departments and agencies, as well as many information technology enterprises were present at the event.

“This is a great honor for our group and the institution. It was made possible by the participation of thousands of clinicians working in close partnership with technological and administrative members of the project,” says Dr. Jeffrey Barkun, Chief Clinical Officer of Technological Transition at the MUHC.

Input from clinicians was vital to the project. “This award really shows that clinical user’s empowerment is instrumental to the success of such projects,” adds Dr Luc Valiquette, Chief Clinical Officer at the CHUM.

According to Mr. Jean Huot, Chief Information Officer at the CHUM and the MUHC, this recognition is a significant achievement.. “I am very pleased that the Oacis implementation has earned such distinction within the information technology industry,” he says

“We are thrilled for our customers,” concludes Francois Cote, President, TELUS Health Solutions. “We are delighted they are being recognized by their peers in Quebec’s information technology industry for their successful implementation.”
