SAINT-EUSTACHE, Que. -- Catherine Delmas-Frenette converted a penalty kick in the 61st minute as Montreal blanked McGill 1-0 in women's indoor soccer at the Saint Eustache soccer centre, Sunday. The penalty was called after Katherine Green was ruled to have fouled all-star Veronique Laverdiere. Delmas-Frenette fired her shot to the right, past McGill rookie 'keeper Parent-Houde.

It was the first loss of the indoor season for the second-place Martlets (4-1-1) and clinched first-place for the Carabins, who own a 5-0-1 record with one game remaining before playoffs.

"We dressed a depleted lineup due to key starters being away during "reading week" but we still managed to offer a strong performance," said McGill head coach Marc Mounicot. "We had the best chance of the game when (Alexandra) Morin-Boucher had a breakaway but the UdeM 'keeper was strong on both the initial shot and on the rebound."

Among the missing players was team captain Katherine Green, who is recovering from a mild concussion and is expected to be back after the first round of the playoffs.

McGill closes out the rgular season at the new Concordia StingerDome on Feb 28 at 1 p.m.  The Martlets are tentatively slated to play seventh-place UQTR in a quarterfinal on March 14.
