New and Renewed Faculty of Medicine Canada Research Chairs Announced

Federal Minister of Industry Tony Clement announced in November 2010 the Government’s major investment in the Canada Research Chairs Program, enabling the country to strengthen its position as a world leader in university research and development.

 

During the 10th anniversary celebration of the program, Minister Clement announced an investment of $275.6 million to fund 310 new or renewed Canada Research Chairs at 53 Canadian universities.   McGill has been allocated $15.4 million of the fund for research.

 

The Chairs are divided into two pools.  Tier One researchers receive $200,000 per year for seven years (totaling $1.4 million), and Tier Two researchers receive $100,000 per year for five years (totaling $500,000).
