…Both Ottawa and the provinces have fought the tobacco companies in the war on cancer. Yet they have remained largely passive as processed food companies make ever more outlandish health claims about some of their products - from chocolate bars with heart logos on the packaging to "all natural" chips - said Dr. Kaberi Dasgupta, a specialist in diabetes and obesity at the McGill University Health Centre.

"I think some things do need to be legislated," said Dasgupta, recommending more stringent requirements on health claims and clearer nutritional information. "We need to learn from our experience in combatting smoking," she added.
