Prostate cancer tests don't save lives. Prostate screening has no benefit. Prostate cancer screening doesn't do much good, study says.

These are some of Friday's screaming media headlines after another European study threw more doubt over the value of routine prostate cancer screening.

But don't cancel your next appointment. Canadian oncology experts warn that it's too early to dismiss the prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood testing as useless.

Despite over-diagnosis and overtreatment, screening tests are very effective in decreasing mortality, said Dr. Franck Bladou, chief of urology at the McGill University Health Centre.
