McGill's Chartrand named Quebec university athlete of the week

MONTREAL - McGill defencemen Cathy Chartrand of Lac Nominigue, Que., is the De Facto Quebec University female athlete of the week for the period ending Jan. 10, 2010.

 

Chartrand, a member of the hockey Martlets who stands 5-foot-10, was involved on five of McGill's seven goals scored during a pair of weekend victories that extended the team's CIS record win streak to 72 games.

 

She tallied twice and added an assist in a 4-2 victory over Ottawa last Friday, then added two helpers in Saturday's 3-0 decision over Concordia. The third-year physical & health education major is the top-scoring blueliner in the nation with eight goals and 18 points in 12 games. A graduate of Polyvalent Saint-Joseph she previously attended College Saint-Laurent.

 

McGill athletes have now been selected seven times for the QSSF weekly award, split evenly among men and women. The 2009-10 honourees from McGill include:
