McGill wrestler finishes 8th at CIS championships

CALGARY -- Ian Vogel, a science freshman from South Salem, N.Y., was McGill's lone qualifier at the CIS wrestling championships in Calgary over the weekend.

The agriculture and environment major competed in the 72kg weight class and finished eighth overall.

Vogel, who measure 5-foot-9 and weighs 155 pounds, was pinned in all three of his preliminary matches to opponents from Brock, Lakehead and Simon Fraser University, respectively.

In his final bout, for seventh place against an opponent from the University of Alberta, Vogel lost by technical fall. After winning the first best-of-three period by a score of 2-0, he lost the final two periods by a score of 6-0, 6-0.
