Daoust and Morin named McGill Olde Orchard athletes of the week

Published: 20 February 2012

MONTREAL - Mélodie Daoust of Valleyfield, Que., and Hubert Morin of St. Georges de Beauce, Que., are the McGill University - Ye Olde Orchard athletes of the week, for the period ending Feb. 19, 2012.

Daoust, a 5-foot-6 rookie centre with the women's hockey team, scored all three goals in the final regular-season game, a 3-0 victory over Concordia, on Sunday. A 20-year-old physical and health education freshman who also plays for the Canadian national under-22 squad, Daoust's performance clinched the conference scoring title with 43 points, including 18 goals, in just 18 contests. She ended up fifth in the nation in goals and fourth in points. Daoust enrolled at McGill last September after graduating and playing for College Edouard-Montpetit.

Morin, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound goaltender with the men's hockey team, won both of his starts and posted a 1.50 goals-against average, along with a stingy .946 save percentage as McGill swept their best-of-three quarter-final series against Queen's last week, a 3-2 win on home-ice last Wednesday and a 5-1 decision in Kingston on Friday. The 24-year-old civil engineering senior saved 53 of 56 shots over the two games. Morin, a product of St. Lawrence of the Quebec Jr. AAA league, entered McGill in 2008 out of College Beauce Appalaches.

Both athletes will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
