MONTREAL - Ann-Sophie Bettez of Sept-Iles, Que., scored the game-winner at 12:29 of the final period as the No.2-ranked McGill women's hockey team eked out a 1-0 victory over visiting Concordia at McConnell Arena, Sunday.

McGill, which outshot the Stingers 39-11, ran their win streak over Concordia to 38 consecutive games dating back to 2006.

"Although we didn't score as many goals as some expected, we played well, stuck to our game plan and generated a lot of scoring chances but ran into some hot  goaltending," said Martlets head coach Peter Smith.

Goaltender Andrea Weckman, a neuroscience junior from Waterloo, was called upon to make just 11 saves for the shutout to register her first victory of the season. She was filling in for Charline Labonté, who is currently on loan with forward Mélodie Daoust to the national team, which is competing at the Four Nation's Cup in Sweden.

"Although she didn't have a lot of work, Weckman made a couple of key saves early on and that helped settle us down," said Smith.

Stingers netmnder Marie-Pier Remillard-Paquette, a sophomore from Laval, Que., chalked up 38 saves in a losing cause and was a large factor in McGill going 0-for-4 on the power play.

Concordia (2-4) plays host to Ottawa on Nov. 11, while the Martlets, who improved to 5-1, will host Carleton on Nov. 12.
