Published: 17 January 2012

MONTREAL - Ann-Sophie Bettez, a member of the McGill women's hockey team, has been named female athlete of the week by the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec, for the period ending Jan. 16, 2012.

Harold Vulgaire, a track and field athlete with the Sherbrooke Vert & Or, won the nomination on the men's side.

Bettez, a 5-foot-4 forward from Sept-Iles, Que., scored eight points, including three goals in a pair of McGill victories last week. The 24-year-old was in on every goal in a 4-0 win over Concordia last Friday, scoring once and adding three assists. The next day, she tallied twice and added two helpers in a 5-0 decision over the Montreal Carabins. She has returned for a fifth season after graduating with a B.Com last spring and is now enrolled in a public relations management certificate. Bettez, a product of Dawson College, has also had a few stints with the Canadian national program.

Bettez is the seventh McGill nomination to win the RSEQ weekly nomination this season. Previous winners include hockey players Marc-Andre Dorion (Jan. 10) and Leslie Oles (Nov. 22), swimmer Steven Bielby (TWICE: Oct. 25 and Nov. 15), Gideon Balloch (rugby, Nov. 8), Brianna Miller (rugby, Sept. 12).
