Update on Macdonald Stewart Library Building renovation project
Plans and specifications for the renovation of the Macdonald Stewart Library Building are nearing completion. The University expects to issue the call for tenders in June 2020, for a planned construction start in the fall of 2020. Once construction begins, the project should take two years and be completed by late summer 2022.
The Macdonald-Stewart Library Building, which houses the Schulich Library of Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, and Engineering, needs significant structural repairs and major internal upgrades.
The renovation project includes stabilization of the stone structure, foundation waterproofing, window replacement, washroom expansion and the installation of a new heating, ventilation and air conditioning system (HVAC). Interior work is also planned as part of the project. The renovated building will feature more study and work spaces, new flooring, ceilings and lights, and increased accessibility.
