Wendy Thomson - Towards sustainable child welfare in Ontario: insights from the Commission

Wednesday, December 1, 2010 12:00to13:30
Wilson Hall 3506 rue University, Montreal, QC, H3A 2A7, CA

At this lunchtime session Dr Wendy Thomson will present the work of the independent Commission to Promote Sustainable Child Welfare, on which she serves as one of 3 Commissioners. With a commitment to more integrated community based services for children and families, the Commission has embarked on a 4 tiered strategy: 1) to reconfigure services, 2) introduce a more equitable funding approach, 3) develop a new accountability framework, and 4) make improvements to local services, reducing administrative burden. In moving forward on these issues, Dr. Thomson will share the insights gained in the first year of the Commission’s work, and highlight the need for information and research to be more available and used in decision-making.
