"Sex and the City": Why Gender in Urban Planning?
Presenter: Jennifer Robert-Colomby
About: Of French and American origin, Jennifer graduated from the University of Montreal with a Master in International Compared Politics in 2012. She also holds a Master of Research in International Relations from the Sorbonne University for which she wrote a thesis on the role of women in peace processes and conflict resolution in Colombia. Building on her experience in different international and private organizations such as UNESCO and Universalia, she has worked for Women in Cities International as a senior analyst for three years. As such, she has conducted a literature review of gender-sensitive indicators for monitoring and evaluating community safety projects and public safety policies as part of the UN-Habitat "Safer Cities" programme. She has also created training materials for the Because I am a Girl - Urban Programme, in partnership with Plan International and UN-Habitat, which aims at building safer and more inclusive cities for girls. Over the years, she has developed a good expertise in monitoring and evaluation of projects promoting gender mainstreaming in urban planning, and the inclusion of women and girls in public spaces from an intersectional perspective.
The Urban Studies @McGill Seminar Series invites speakers to present on a variety of ongoing research, projects, and issues related to urban studies. The seminars are hosted and organized by the McGill School of Urban Planning, with participation from the McGill School of Environment, and Department of Geography. The seminars typically run from noon to 1pm on Fridays throughout the semester and are open to students, faculty, and other members of the urban studies group.
